5 reasons to train your employees

3B Training have provided five reasons why your workforce should attend training:

1. A safer workplace

Training your staff can only improve your occupational health and safety. If you have more employees who have the know-how to recognise a risk or a hazard, the safer your work will be. All of 3B’s training courses help towards educating you how to follow health and safety practices or correctly use equipment. 3B provide several inductions into health and safety for your employees. For a more general health and safety course; the CIEH Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace or the IOSH Working Safely would be a great place to start. If you work construction industry the CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is the standard first stepping stone into working on site. You will also be able to apply for a CSCS Green Card when you complete the course.

2. Job satisfaction and team morale

The more wanted a member of staff feels the more they are ready to work hard. An employee is more likely to stay with you longer if you are seen to be investing in their development. Many of the training courses can involve working with your colleagues in a range of interactive activities. Courses like the IOSH Managing Safely and the SMSTS contain projects in which you work in groups which help to improve the delegate’s team building skills. Courses can also be delivered specifically for a company as an in-house course. It is a great way to get your team working together. It’s also a chance for them to interact with each other where they might not otherwise do so.

3. Peace of mind

The need to watch over employees who are not competent in health and safety can be reduced if they are correctly trained. Giving your staff the ability to work individually will help to benefit their progression and will also free up their supervisor's time. With the correct training workplace injuries will be reduced and assist in avoiding any other escalated issues because they are working to correct health and safety legislation. The cutback in any of those related issues will make your life much easier as an employer.

4. Progression

When you enhance your employee’s skills you are opening doors for them to advance in their career. If a position in a higher role becomes vacant that role could be taken internally by a trustworthy employee rather than you searching elsewhere and going through a long-winded recruitment process. They will be able to acquire new responsibilities and do them competently; in terms of the construction industry, this could also assist improving the construction skills gap.

5. Following the law

In a number of workplaces it is the law to have a standard qualification to be able conduct a certain task. E.g. to gain access to a construction site you need to obtain a certain level of CSCS card for your job role.

Likewise when operating plant machinery you will need to hold the relevant NPORS or CPCS qualification to do so, even though this isn’t imperative at the moment it is likely to be in the future.

A lot of training qualifications are not a legal requirement it is recommended to follow the approved best practice to lower any repercussions in the future. Having your workers trained in First Aid, Face-Fit, Fire Warden or Asbestos Awareness will help reduce any future issues.

Make sure that you are also maintaining your worker’s qualifications by tracking certificate expiry dates and refreshing their knowledge. Tickets such as CSCS Cards, PASMA and  IPAF need to be renewed when they expire. Refresher courses with 3B Training are cheaper and shorter than the full course which will reduce the amount of time the employee is out of the workplace. You will also be updated with any new rules that have been implemented. The SSSTS Refresher, SMSTS Refresher and First Aid Re-qualification are all provided by 3B Training.

If you are uncertain about what courses you or your workforce need to attend, 3B Training's training advisors will be able to direct you. 3B Training have centres in Bolton, Derby, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds, Hull, Durham and Watford.
