An expert in carbon monoxide is welcoming the Government response to the dangers of not having a fully working carbon monoxide (CO) alarm.
The Government recently released the Energy Act 2013 which highlights the importance of CO and smoke alarms in rented properties to ensure they are checked and in "proper working order.”
John Stones, managing director of Gas Safe Europe, is welcoming the progress but wants to raise the importance of sensor inclusive testing CO alarms as 45% of CO alarms already installed in the UK may no longer be sensing gas.
John said: "What many people are not aware of is that pressing the test button on CO alarms only checks that the battery, buzzer and electronics are working and not the gas sensor itself – in fact research has shown that 16% of CO alarms fail straight ‘out of the box’.”
To address this problem, Gas Safe Europe has developed and patented a life-saving CO alarm testing product DETECTAGAS – a multi award-winning test kit that tests the gas sensor on a carbon monoxide alarm is working.
It is said to be a quick and easy way to test the alarm to ensure every element is working properly and could save lives from the odourless, silent killer.
