FASET, the trade body representing the safety net rigging and temporary safety systems industry, has announced the winners of its first annual awards.
In each case, the independent judging panel, which included a representative of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), was impressed by the commitment, innovation and concern for safety demonstrated by the winners.
Sponsored by Smart Scaffolder, the category 'FASET Health and Safety Initiative of the Year' was won by PMC Safety Netting - a FASET member company - who, in the opinion of the judges, had made an outstanding contribution to the work and role of the association by contributing time, knowledge and expertise to the development of FASET training and best practice.
In the same category, Structural Metal Decks was ‘highly commended’ for its clear commitment to prioritising health and safety, including training, within its own organisation.
The winner of FASET Operative of the Year, sponsored by GAP Tool Hire, was Scott Campbell of Onestop Safety Netting and Edge Protection. Having experienced a tragic accident to a colleague at work, the judges were particularly impressed by the way in which Scott had dealt with the tragedy, re-built his confidence and gone on to positively develop his work at height skills and experience.
‘Highly commended’ was Callum Greenaway of Stasafe for his consistent and conscientious approach to working at height, especially when working alone.
The final award, 'FASET Member Project of the Year', sponsored by CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme), also went to PMC Safety Netting for a project that the judges described as having specific challenges requiring an innovative but painstaking approach.
In this category ’highly commended’ was awarded to two companies for named projects: Nationwide Safety and Safety Net Services.
