CONSTRUCTION SITES may be able to stay open during the second lockdown but consistent measures must be taken to ensure site workers are protected and to minimise the risk of spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19) infection.
The latest ‘Site Operating Procedures’ advice from the Construction Leadership Council states that the number of people in attendance on site should be reduced and that all non-essential visitors should be stopped.
Government guidance for employers in England states “where the social distancing guidelines cannot be followed in full, in relation to a particular activity, and the activity cannot be redesigned, businesses should consider whether that activity needs to continue for the business to operate…”
Construction site safety and security specialist SafeSite Facilities has produced a free checklist, to help site owners and principal contractors meet these obligations, and to help them identify any possible risks and necessary remedial action.
Greig McGarva, hire and sales team leader, SafeSite Facilities said, “Our customers are working tirelessly to ensure they continue to meet their construction targets on time and on budget, despite the restrictions to site access placed on them during the pandemic. We have created a free safety and security self-assessment so that, with our guidance, site managers can put in place the appropriate measures to minimise any possible harm or damage. The health and safety requirements of any construction activity must not be compromised at this time, which is why it is vital, now more than ever, that protocols are followed to protect public health and ensure the safety of all construction workers.”
