Independent vehicle rental and contract hire company Burnt Tree has won a Green Apple Environment Award in the national campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities. Burnt Tree competed against more than 500 other nominations and was presented with its Green Apple Award at the House of Commons during November 2013.
To win this award, Burnt Tree initiated ‘Project Revive’ under guidance of the company’s Group HSEQ Manager Deborah Greenall. Project Revive is an ongoing programme that involves the recycling and re-use, rather than disposal, of key bodyshop parts, such as body panels and bumpers. As a result of this project, there was a reduction of waste produced by 32% and the vehicle parts recycle rate has increased to 97%.
According to Charlie Bailey, Group Fleet Engineer at Burnt Tree, "Through this project, we investigated alternative proposals to the traditional disposal of key body parts and devised a system that allows us to repair them rather than dispose of them, with the finished product looking like new. For example, today 100% of our car bumpers are now recycled and repaired, alongside other plastic items such as mirror heads, corner bumpers, rear light surrounds, headlight surrounds and lower step panels.”
