'ITIL Practitioner' course put to the test

IT educator Sysop has beta-tested standards organisation Axelos’ new hands-on ‘ITIL Practitioner’ (2016) course with a group of seasoned IT professionals, to make pre-launch classroom adjustments and to ensure that the course and its examination are fit for purpose.

As a result Sysop believes that it is ideally placed to set the best-in-class ITIL Practitioner (2016) education standard.

“We firmly believe this new, highly practical course is the missing piece of the ITIL jigsaw,” Sysop MD and consulting lead Stuart Sawle said. “The other ITIL courses all focus on IT Services Management theory, whereas this one concentrates on the practical – how to do ITSM. The whole thrust of the course is to allow its students to learn from each other. Less than a third of the course timetable is made up of lectures – the bulk of the course consists of practical exercises, case studies and discussions.”

With an 83% pass rate, Sysop’s beta-course was well received by its participants according to the company, though it has also made a number of improvements as a result. Sysop has taken a decision to run its ITIL Practitioner (2016) course over three rather than the guideline two days “to allow practical learnings to be fully absorbed”.
