On with the show

Safety and Health Expo will once again be flying the flag for UK and international OSH professionals at ExCeL London from 16 to 18 June, showcasing new products and training for the health and safety industry and bringing together thought leaders from across the industry to discuss policy, practice and legislation.

With over 350 manufacturers and distributors exhibiting at Safety and Health Expo, the event also features insight from bodies such as IOSH, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, the British Safety Industry Federation, the British Safety Council, the British Occupational Hygiene Society, Safety Groups UK and Access Industries Forum.

In 2014 Safety & Health Expo was co-located with the IOSH Conference for the first time, and 2015 will once again see these two events run side by side. Leadership in action is the key theme for the IOSH Conference 2015, directly tackling how to recognise leadership, demonstrate it and develop it; the conference will feature case studies showcasing exceptional leadership and examples of where it's had a profound impact.

The IOSH Conference will be complemented by RoSPA and the BSIF who will be hosting their prestigious awards within the event.

New products and innovation

Health and Safety product innovation is vital for the development of the industry and reducing health and safety risk, whether on a construction site, in a laboratory or within a manufacturing plant. With this in mind the Innovation Trail returns for a second year, highlighting suppliers from across the show with new products to shout about.

In addition to the Innovation Trail, Safety & Health Expo is working with the BSIF to create the Innovation Zone, located at the end of the trail, hosting a number of innovation pods, housing a range of companies.

CPD sessions

The IOSH / SHP Academy is the flagship theatre of the Safety & Health Expo programme, with a programme curated by IOSH and SHP to meet the challenges of the health and safety industry in 30 minute sessions. These include, among other topics, the latest thinking on behavioural safety, fire prevention and a panel debate designed to demystify CDM.

The IOSH/SHP Academy will also host Inspirational Speaker Series with three high profile personalities, all of whom have reached the pinnacle of their careers and will share their business and leadership expertise and unique experiences with visitors. In its inaugural year the Inspirational Speaker Series will host the world’s greatest explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE, leading businesswoman Baroness Karren Brady CBE and Britain’s greatest Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy MBE, across the three days.

The BOHS Worker Health Protection Theatre will put a much needed spotlight on the 'health' in safety and health. With over 13,000 UK employees dying every year from occupational health issues, these sessions will bring the health issue to the forefront of the agenda.

The British Safety Council will this year host the prestigious British Safety Council Global Risk Management Theatre at Safety & Health Expo. Sessions within this theatre are designed for UK practitioners with international sites under their remit; these workshops will deliver insight into global health and safety communication.

With the dangers of lone working markedly different to those faced by teams, the BSIA Lone Worker Arena will cover risk reduction techniques designed to keep employees safe when in a solo environment.

Finally, the Driver Safety Zone, bought to you by Driving Monitor and RoSPA will showcase the latest trends and techniques for optimum driver safety.

Health & Safety Week

With occupational health rising up the safety and health professionals’ agenda, this year’s Health & Safety Week will be centred on a call for action across the industry. With occupational health exposures responsible for over 99% of workplace deaths, safety and health professionals can show their support by running their own health week, or by attending the Health Symposium on 18 June at Safety & Health Expo, where leading players will discuss the health issue in a panel debate at the Symposium.

Also as part of Health & Safety Week, the event will launch the first Women in Health and Safety Forum, running on both 16 and 18 June at Safety & Health Expo. These sessions are open to both men and women and will focus on the importance of communication, a critical skill in the health and safety profession to influence the behaviour of the workforce.
