For ISD Solutions, specialist composite panel cold store contractor and the pioneers of fast, super-efficient, single envelope clad rack solutions, nothing beats experience and good design practice when it comes to health and safety.
With some panels extending to over 19 metres handling can be challenging even in the lightest winds and structural properties for PIR insulated panels are also entirely different to traditional materials, especially in roofing and ceiling applications.
This puts the focus firmly on health and safety and rigorous attention throughout the installation phase and particularly for follow on trades is crucial.
The company recently completed work on a new frozen and chilled storage facility for leading Spanish pharmaceutical giant Grifols in Dublin, incorporating some 9,000m2 of PIR insulated panels in the construction.
With the largest panels measuring 18m high, the logistics of lifting and fixing these into position required careful planning and execution for ISD’s Special Projects Division. As the cladding envelope also forms part of the building system it has to be designed to accommodate high wind loads and thermal stresses.
Working at height, over 35 metres on this project, presented added construction difficulties. ISD’s in-house health and safety expertise helped to ensure risk-free installation methods throughout the build and that HSE procedures were followed to the letter.
