Using tools at height constitutes a serious hazard. Even heavy duty hard hats offer little protection against equipment dropped from an elevated working point.
As an object falls it accelerates rapidly: the greater the height, the greater the landing impact. Even a small screw driver can generate the impact force of a washing machine when dropped from over 10m.
In 2015/16, fifteen people were killed after being struck by a moving object at work, making it the third largest cause of fatal injuries to workers. As well as the risk to human life, the financial implications of dropped tools can be devastating: litigation costs, reputation damage, broken equipment as well as downtime and project overruns.
Fortunately, the risk of dropped tools can be dramatically reduced with the use of tool tethering. Tool tethering connects equipment to a secure point using a lanyard: if a tool is dropped or displaced, the fall is arrested and team members below are kept safe.
Enfield Safety offers site managers peace of mind with the latest tool tethering kits, stringently tested for strength, reliability and durability.
